Ward Priorities: October 2026 round-up
By Cllr Danny Carter · 20 October 2026

October has been a busy month across Pype Hayes and Birches Green. As the nights draw in, our focus remains firmly on ensuring our community remains safe, accessible, and well-maintained. While progress in local government often moves at a measured pace, I want to keep you fully updated on where we stand with the key priorities you have raised. This month, we have continued to engage with the City Council Highways department regarding our ongoing infrastructure concerns. Improving the quality of our local environment remains at the forefront of my work. ### Road resurfacing across Pype Hayes We know that the condition of our road surfaces is a major point of frustration for residents. I am currently collating reports of the most severe potholes and surface degradation to present to the Highways department. This evidence-based approach is necessary to ensure our ward receives its fair share of maintenance budget. I am pushing for a comprehensive survey of the worst-affected roads to be scheduled for the next quarter. ### Traffic calming on ward rat-runs The volume of through-traffic on our quieter residential streets remains a high priority. I am in regular dialogue with the Transport department to ensure our ward is included in upcoming traffic management assessments. The goal is to discourage non-local traffic from using our estates as shortcuts, which will improve air quality and safety for all residents. ### Speed bumps near Yenton Primary School and St Mary and St John's Catholic Primary The safety of our children travelling to and from school is non-negotiable. I have reiterated the community’s concerns to the Road Safety team regarding vehicle speeds in the immediate vicinity of both Yenton Primary School and St Mary and St John's Catholic Primary. We are currently awaiting a formal update on the feasibility of installing additional traffic calming measures, such as speed cushions, to protect our families during peak school hours. ### Still waiting on The restoration of Pype Hayes Hall continues to be a complex issue. The building is a significant part of our local heritage, and I am still awaiting a detailed update from the Assets and Property department regarding the long-term plans for the site. I share the frustration of many residents who want to see this landmark returned to a usable state, and I am committed to keeping the pressure on the relevant departments to provide clarity. Your voice makes a difference. If you would like to see these initiatives move forward faster, please visit https://dannycarter.org.uk/priorities to back these priorities. By adding your support, you help me demonstrate the strength of feeling in our community when I am lobbying the council. Thank you for your continued engagement.
