Why we are doing this
Pledges are not open yet

These are non-profit community events. Any surplus after all costs are paid is carried forward in full to fund the next resident event, and the closing accounts are published on this page.
How it works, step by step
For anyone thinking of proposing an event, and for anyone thinking of pledging to one.
- 1
You tell the office what you want to put on
Any resident, business or local organisation can propose an event. You say what it is, roughly when and where, and who it is for. Nothing is published until the office has been through it with you.
- 2
The office costs it properly, in the open
Every line is researched and listed publicly — venue, entertainment, safety cover, stewarding, insurance, licences, welfare, marketing — with the assumption behind each figure and a contingency on top. Any sponsorship or pitch income is deducted, and the number left is what the ward is asked to raise.
- 3
Permission is sought before a single penny is asked for
The costed proposal goes to Birmingham City Council. No fundraiser can accept pledges until the council has confirmed in writing that it can go ahead, and the council reference is shown publicly on the page.
- 4
Residents pledge — no card details, no payment
You promise an amount. Nothing is taken from you at that point, and no card or bank details are collected. You can withdraw your pledge at any time before payment is requested by replying to your confirmation email.
- 5
The target is reached, then the council schedules the date
Once the target is met, the council events team formally schedules the event in the city calendar and issues the final approvals — road closures, licences and safety plan sign-off.
- 6
Only then are pledges collected
When the date is scheduled, everyone who pledged is emailed a secure payment link. Payments are handled by Stripe; this website never sees or stores your card number.
- 7
If the council refuses it, nobody pays anything
If the events team rejects the event, or the target is missed by the closing date, every pledge is cancelled and no card is ever charged. There is nothing to refund, because nothing was taken. You are told by email either way.
- 8
The real accounts are published afterwards
After the event, what was actually spent is published next to the original budget. These are non-profit community events — nobody takes a wage, and any surplus is carried forward in full to the next event residents ask for.
Rules of engagement
These apply to every fundraiser on this page, whoever is running it. Proposing or pledging means accepting them.
- Events must be open to all residents of the ward and free or low cost wherever possible.
- No fundraiser may be used for party political campaigning, election material or personal gain.
- Organisers must be over 18 and give real contact details the office can verify.
- Everything in a public space needs Birmingham City Council approval, public liability insurance and, where required, a licence and a safety plan — the office arranges these.
- Suppliers must be legitimate businesses; quotes replace estimates before money is collected.
- Activities involving children or vulnerable adults require appropriate safeguarding checks.
- Money is only ever collected through this website’s payment provider — never in cash, and never to a personal account.
- Pledges are voluntary promises, not legally binding contracts, and can be withdrawn before payment is requested.
- The office may decline or withdraw any fundraiser that is unlawful, unsafe, discriminatory or brings the ward into disrepute.
- Complaints about a fundraiser go to the office first and are answered in writing within ten working days.
Your information and your rights
Cllr Danny Carter’s office is the data controller for this fundraising service. When you pledge, we hold your name, email, and any phone number, postcode and message you choose to give us. We use it only to confirm your pledge, to tell you whether the event was approved and funded, and to request payment if it goes ahead. Postcodes are used solely to show, in aggregate, how much support comes from within the ward.
The lawful basis is your consent for the pledge record, and our legitimate interest in keeping accurate, auditable accounts for a community event. Your details are never sold, never used for party political campaigning, and are not shared with suppliers or the council — only anonymised totals are. Payment details are handled entirely by Stripe and never stored on this site.
Pledge records are kept for seven years to satisfy accounting and audit requirements, then deleted. You can ask to see, correct, download or erase your data at any time, withdraw consent, or complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy, and you can manage or delete your data yourself under Privacy settings.
We also need hands, not just money
If you can spare a couple of hours on the day, tell the office and we will put you on the rota.
- Volunteer Crowd Stewards — 20 needed. Assist with crowd wayfinding, programme distribution, and gate welcoming under supervision of chief steward.
- Bucket Collection & Gate Greeters — 8 needed. Staff pedestrian gates with secure donation buckets and digital tap-to-donate readers.
- Bonfire Build & Site Set-up Crew — 10 needed. Assist morning build of pallet stack, signage installation, and barrier positioning alongside contractors.
- Morning After Green Park Sweep Team — 12 needed. Support post-event litter picking at 08:00 on November 6th to prevent BCC council recharge fees.
