Stop the conversion of The Lad in the Lane to Exempt Accommodation

Stop the conversion of The Lad in the Lane to Exempt Accommodation

The proposed conversion of The Lad in the Lane (2026/01279/PA) into supported exempt accommodation is an unacceptable threat to our neighbourhood. We have seen too many of these developments undermine local safety, increase anti-social behaviour, and erode the community spirit that defines Pype Hayes and Erdington. Our historic landmarks should be preserved for residents, not exploited for housing schemes that fail to support our local infrastructure or security. We urge everyone to examine the full planning documents available on the Birmingham City Council portal. If you noticed the site notice, please check the date you saw it and confirm whether you have already submitted a formal objection to the planning department. We demand that the Council rejects this application immediately and prioritises the well-being of existing residents over this inappropriate change of use.

Please sign this petition today to stand with us in protecting our community from this unsuitable development.

"I used to work there many moons ago, belive someone should love this place again with so much history, wish it to be loved and part of the community again."

Amanda Millar · 12 Aug 2026

"I think it's clear that it is no longer a viable option for this building to be run as a public house again, however its importantance as a heritage asset should be preserved. If it were to become a HMO this would not support this aim."

"Negative Impact on local community. We don’t need more HMO’s "
